8 1/2 is too good

If you read my post a couple days ago you learned that I was attempting a no-pizza diet for the week; trying to make it to the weekend without eating my heart stopping favorites.  Well, my roommate came home with a pizza from 8 1/2 and the aroma filling the house was too much for my salivating glands.

I ordered two pies: 1 red Pepperoni and 1 red Green Pepper/Mushroom

As I walked in, noticed one of the employees rushing to the oven and removing a charred disc of pizza with what looked to be my green pepper pizza.  I also noticed a box sitting on top of the oven, a pepperoni pizza, waiting to be consumed.  I would have to wait for another pizza to be made while letting my other pie go uneaten for ten extra unnecessary minutes.

Worried that my precious pepperoni pie would suffer in quality, I raced home, driving faster than one should be through Richmond’s Fan, praying that I’d not hit any red lights.

How was the pie?

STILL. AWESOME. (pics after the break)

The green pepper/mushroom wasn’t for me, but I did get a slice and while the mushrooms were pretty fresh tasting, the green peppers were too slimy and leafy for my liking.  The pepperoni pizza on the other hand, it tasted no different even with the extra cooling time.  I simply can’t get enough of the gorgeous, charred edges of the crust, bubbles and black spots all over the place.  Oven blisters galore.  This is the way pizza should be done.  Love it.

  • Enjoying your site. I think we have similar pizza-palates. Can I add your site to the EatingRichmond.com food blog aggregator? Also, try Capriccio’s on Broad by TJ Maxx and tell me if you’ve had a better slice of plain cheese pizza (add pepperoni if you must).

  • Go ahead and add us to eatingrichmond. We will be sure to check out Capriccio’s.

  • Hey Guys!
I met one of you at Carytown Bikes on Saturday. I was stoked to meet another local pizza blogger. I’ve been reading through the blog and it is GREAT stuff. I shouted you out on mine too! I’m also part of the EatingRichmond.com group. Let’s go on a pizza field trip!
    buon appetito!

  • The last few times I’ve been to 8 1/2, the pizza has been hit or miss. Too bad, good pizza when it’s on. On the other hand Capriccio’s has the best crust, but their sauce is too sweet and their sauce to cheese ratio on the margherita was like three to one. They may have sliced one small ball of mozzarella on a large pizza. The salad was also blah.
