A Slice of Heaven

If you’ve been reading, you may have noticed that I’ve mentioned the New York based pizza blog, Slice.  It’s probably my favorite food blog out there, as it not only covers NY pizza, but its staff of writers is frequently aloof across the states to tell us about the best pizza joints in some cool cities.

I noticed one of their writers is also a contributor to the New York Times; a very popular food writer by the name of Ed Levine.  He wrote this book which I hastily ordered.  [hint: click more for more!]

For some odd reason, as soon as I got the book, I thumbed through the table of contents and noticed Ed wrote chapters dedicated to chain pizza and frozen pizza.  I read these first, and he had some very interesting and true things to say about this stuff and I hold his words to high esteem…he’s been eating only the best pizza in the country for much of his life in New York.

Levine is dedicated and its almost scary.  He stated that he ate over one thousand slices of pizza in the year he spent traveling and writing this book; roughly 3 slices a day.  Thats some Super Size Me shit.

Much of the book is literally a travel companion for pizzerias around the country.  There is a huge listing of the best pizza joints in New York City and all of her boroughs, Jersey, Connecticut, Philly, Boston, California, the Southwest, West Coast, Texas, ect ect.  I could go on.

But some of the book, and to me, the most interesting part, is dedicated to his travels to Italy.  Naples in particular.  His mission is to seek out true Neapolitan Pizza.  Is it really the best pizza in the world?

Levine also speaks to some of the most dedicated pizzaiolos around the world to find out what makes them tick…what are they striving for?  What is the perfect pizza to them?

This book is full of invaluable information that any pizza lover will devour, and it ain’t that expensive either.  -gRant

  • I have that book too gRant. There is a really silly quote from Edward Norton about his favorite pizza place in it. That book is great! Have you ever read Jeff Verssano’s Blog about pizza? He spend six years looking for the perfect crust before opening his place in NYC. http://www.varasanos.com/PizzaRecipe.htm

  • No I haven’t seen this blog. I”ll definately add it to my bookmarks. -gRant
