Pronto Italian Restaurant…Ristorante? Whatever, they have pizza.
Pronto is a little shopping center Italian restaurant right off of Libbie Avenue in the same area as Barnes and Noble and Target. I had some pizza from there a couple years ago but I really don’t remember anything about it other than the gross amounts of cheese they put on this thing. Too much cheese is usually a bad thing I say.
At first glance, I had bad feelings about this pizza. It actually looked worse when it came out of the oven…

- this is dirty mall pizza!
The first bite into this stuff, the crust resembles dry toast. Just a really bad, dry, overly crispy crust with no texture or chewiness to it. My friends, once the crust is this bad, there isn’t a special enough sauce or mozzarella in the world to save it.
Oh they try. They try to save it. There is almost as much mozz on this pizza as there was on the Zorba’s pizza I tried over the summer. The cheese lays there like a soft, wet pile of hot goo. It just isn’t good.
And the sauce? You could sip it through a coffee stirring straw. I’m pretty sure they use the same sauce for their spaghetti.
A medium 1-topping pizza of 14 inches ran us around $14 bucks. It just isn’t worth the price or the trip out to Libbie to eat this stuff. Both Evan and I stopped eating after slice number 2, and shamefully took the rest home with us.

I’ve always gotten a bad vibe from that place. It’s good that you’re exposing the bad pizza purveyors, but I still need to hear your thoughts on Capriccio’s. Wanna meet up there and split a couple pies and/or slices? jasonguard(at)riseup.net(dot)net
I’ve been going there for years. It’s in the same “family” as Angelas, Piccolas, Maldinis, Adriannas and a few more. Like any pizza joint, you get a good pie one day and a bad (but very eatable) pie the next.
stump
Pronto’s pizza is indeed weak… but the pesto gnocci is damn fine.
Thats interesting Stump. I had no idea ALL of those places were a part of the same pizza family. I definately admire their love for the food. I think out of all those places, Adriannas does it the best. Havent had Maldini’s yet though
Yep, they just opened one at the end of Powhite. Can’t remember the name. It’s in the same kinda take as Maldini’s… some higher priced dinners and specials of the day. My daughter dances with one of the kids in the family. Now, family could be a wide term but it’s like uncles, aunts, cousins, etc…
I just found this cause I don’t like to talk without some more info!

I also don’t understand the Vinney’s thing!
I do like Adriannas as well!
My wife’s favorite dish there!
Maldini’s is great. It’s kind of an expensive pie, but definitely the best out of the Mary Angela’s Family. It’s just across the river right up the street from me. I used to get some good slices from Arianna’s a lot when I lived in that hood and I did slices at Pronto’s when I worked in that hood. I remember Pronto’s pretty fondly actually but that was a few years ago. I think Mary Angelas is only good for dine-in. Piccola’s is usally a little undercooked for my taste. I’ve never made it out to Pietro’s… but I wonder.
I’m not sure if they still have it, but a few years back Pronto used to have Siccilian-style, which isn’t too common around here. It was the only thing worth ordering from that place.
Mary Angelas still has Sicilian style and its pretty decent. Oddly enough, low quality sicilian style seems very similar to the “Pizza Hut”
