First Pizza Crawl…Success!

So last night was the first ever Pizza Crawl put on by Pamparius.com and Carytown Bicycle Company and I have to say, it was fucking awesome!  Thanks to everyone who came out with a positive attitude, plenty of cash and some pretty cool bikes!

Check out the full report after the break.

People started pouring in to CBC around 6:50pm and around 7:05 we had 30-35 people in and outside of the store.  Everyone was super stoked to hang out and get pizza, and I don’t think we (the pamparius and CBC guys) were expecting such a big turnout.  There were no negative vibes to be found.  I find myself always in a state of surprise when these big bike groups get together and everyone always gets along, but I guess cyclists always have one thing in common.  The love of the ride.  And apparently we all love pizza.

Leaving the shop around 7:15, the gang headed down Floyd towards our first stop of the night, 8 1/2 pizza.  Andy called ahead and they prepared four pizzas for us which they cut into extra slices because the usual 6 slice pizza wouldn’t be enough for the 30 or so riders we had.  8 1/2 definitely impressed the most people throughout the night.  Big thanks to the guys there for hooking us up.  As always, it is the best pizza in town!

We crushed the pies in just a couple minutes and Tarrant’s wasn’t expecting us until around 8pm, so Braden took us on a little detour through the Fan and the VCU campus and eventually shot us out on Broad St., in the thick of the First Friday event.

Our friend Ellen at Tarrant’s hooked us up with four large cheese pizzas, hot as shit out of the oven and everyone seemed to be stoked on these slices.  Braden couldn’t wait to get his slice and subsequently lost all of his cheese on the sidewalk.  He never got another slice.  :(

Next stop was Romanza’s in the Jackson Ward, definitely the surprise hit of the evening.  While 8 1/2 and Tarrant’s definitely beat everyone out in the flavor department, you cannot deny that a large cheese pizza at Romanza will only run you seven bucks.  You could start to see everyone’s appetite waning by the expressions on their faces.

We sluggishly made our way up Clay St. and Harrison St. to our last stop, Piccola’s.  I’ve never had a very favorable view on the pizza there but they can do great business simply because of their primo location on campus.  At this point in the night, everyone had had their fill and compounded with the fact that our pizzas absolutely sucked, we could hardly give away our last pizza to passers by.

Braden said it best.  ”Twice the price for twice the crap.”  This place sucks.

We originally planned for Mojo’s being the final pizza destination but everyone was so full from killing 16 pizza pies, about half the group split and head for home (or the toilet).  The rest of us went to Mojo’s for a few beers and good laughs.

Thanks for everyone who came out, rode safely and supplied plenty of cash for the pizzas.  Thanks to Carytown Bicycle Company for supporting the ride and thanks to our readers for being stoked on pizza.  We will try to do this again in the Spring so its a bit more comfortable.  We don’t want Early Man/McKnuckledragger crying about the cold air.

  • EPIC pizza fail on my part. I mistakenly slept through this. I almost cried when I woke up. After all that hype… jeez! I feel like a huge jerk. I hope you guys do another tour soon… I’ll set more that one pizzalicious alarm for it.

  • click my link you’re famous!

  • article looks great! but i think there are some missquotes in there.

romanza is 5.99 for a 14″ and i think donna meant to say ‘on a cold night’
